National Biochar Initiative

NEEDS REVISION

The idea is to bring together all potential stakeholders in the Biochar Industry in Ireland (from agriculture, to waste management, to research and policy) in order to set up testbeds and incentivise applicability research around three focus areas: Urban Waste, Agricultural Waste, and Energy Crops. Finally, the outcome of these trials and research should be assessed for social, economic and ecology impacts.

Our main objective is to identify the most efficient and feasible approach to Biochar for the Irish waste and energy situation, so the government will know how to move forward.

David asked us to prepare a budget for a couple of events, and we are thinking that a workshop and an Irish Biochar Congress are probably the best way to go. We would like to integrate this within the International Initiative and even produce an Irish congress as a follow up event after the international congress in the UK. This way we will have a better understanding of the international picture, and we could save carbon by bringing speakers directly over to Ireland.

Lasting change happens when people see for themselves that a different way of life is more fulfilling than their present one
